4.10 Uttoxeter – the enhancedbets.co.uk Novices Handicap Hurdle
Wednesday’s British and Irish horse racing schedule is made up of meetings at Kempton, Uttoxeter, Wetherby, Wolverhampton, Hamilton, Navan and Wexford giving punters an interest from race one at 1.40pm through to 9.10pm closing.
We shine the spotlight on a competitve eight-race card at the Staffordshire track where the early going has been marked up as good, good to firm in places – as you would expect from English summer racing. We get the ball rolling at 1.40pm with a punchy handicap hurdle decided over 1m 7f but for our bet of the day we’re keep our powder dry until leg six.
The enhancedbets.co.uk Novices’ Handicap Hurdle is a class four event run over 2m 3f with a respectable £4,000 set to be paid out to the winner. If major bookmakers and tipsters are correct in their thinking, we’ll see Mahlermade cross the line head of the pack. There’s plenty to like about Alan King’s runner but he is yet to stick his head in front from five previous starts with a runner-up behind The Last Day – beaten five lengths – near the end of 2017 the best to show for his efforts.
A rival making more sense is Salix for Ben Pauling. The striking grey also brings a CV of five starts to track but he knows what it takes to win having gotten off the mark last time when scoring around Huntingdon in May.
The four-year-old gelding was tested over 2m 4f that day and attracted support in what was a wide-open market. It was to prove to be shrewd money too with Salix hammering a field headed by Brave Helios with the silver medallist crossing the line nine lengths behind. The fact connections have him out again so quickly can only be perceived as a positive and will fill backers with confidence.
Salix was impressive last time and those who backed him to victory will be more than happy to stick with him while there were more than a few sound judges who had the name marked down in their notebook after the way be stuck to his task and was seen running on at the finish.
What our tipster makes of the betting at Uttoxeter
Sponsors enhancedbets.co.uk tipster Frankie Monkhouse agreed when giving his race prediction…
“This promises to be a tough race and a case can be made for a few of the runners but the turn of foot we saw from Salix last month will serve him well again here. If he copes with the trip, and there’s every reason to think he will after that winning distance, he’s good enough and progressive enough to put rivals of this class to bed again. Worth sticking with despite the penalty”.
