EFL League Cup enhanced odds
The English League Cup has been known by many different names throughout its existence due to changing official sponsors, but the format has remained untouched for many years. The EFL Cup, as it was referred to at the start of the 2020/21 campaign, is the first piece of silverware available to teams from English football’s main leagues, including Premier League, Championship, League One and League Two. The tournament usually begins in autumn with the final held at Wembley Stadium in London.

EFL Cup betting
The League Cup may be seen as English football’s third competition behind the Premier League and FA Cup, but it remains popular with UK followers. It’s no surprise to learn major bookmakers have seized on that popularity and they offer customers an opportunity to bet on various match and outright markets. You can bet on every game played in the League Cup at a respected bookie and there’s plenty to choose from when looking to back your predictions with cash. The most popular markets include match winner, both teams to score, first goal scorer and correct score.
You can bet on your League Cup game of choice as a single or add a few to the one bet slip to create a multiple bet, such as an accumulator. This is a popular method of betting during the early rounds of the competition, especially when the Premier League teams join the party and are drawn against lower league opposition. If looking further ahead you can also bet on which team you think will lift the trophy or give yourself a bit of a safety net by backing a club to reach the final. Those after a bigger price can take a punt on the two sides that will contest the next League Cup final.
About the League Cup
The League Cup was first established way back in 1960 meaning it is currently more than 60 years old. One of the reasons football fans adore the competition is it is showing no signs of slowing down but instead evolving to remain relevant and up-to-speed with the demands of modern football. Many of the League Cup matches, especially from the later rounds, are shown live on television, bringing the tournament to the masses.
The most successful football team in the English League Cup at the time of writing is Liverpool who boast no less than eight titles. They are closely followed by Manchester City who have dominated the competition in recent years and sit on seven trophy wins. Other teams who have won the League Cup multiple times include Aston Villa on five, Manchester United on five, Tottenham on four, Nottingham Forest with four and the three of Leicester City. Interestingly, Oxford United are listed as previous winners, coming out on top in 1986.
92 teams are entered into the League Cup every season and that number is whittled down to just two who compete in the final at the national stadium. For as popular as the League Cup is, the tournament is not without its opposition. The main criticism from major teams involved in the Champions League and Europa League is the League Cup adds fixtures to an already stretched schedule. For this reason, some clubs field weakened or even youthful teams in the early rounds of the tournament and this leads to some upset results.
League Cup format
The 92 teams involved in the League Cup are drawn into rounds where the team pulled first enjoys home advantage over their opponents. The winner after 90 minutes progresses to the next round and if the game is a draw then extra-time and penalties are available to settle things.
Both semi-final matches are played at Wembley Stadium before the deciding match also takes place at the home of English football. Sky Sports currently own the broadcasting rights to the competition and bring selected coverage of the early rounds before ramping up their interest from the quarter-finals onwards. Games appearing on TV often have more betting markets attached.
