Premier League returns – June 2020
Premier League preview and predictions
The wait if finally over. The English Premier League returns this week with round 30 played over the course of the weekend. No fans will be in attendance at any of the football matches played in England but it’s great news for armchair fans as each of the remaining games from the 2019/20 season will be shown live on TV.
Two games take place on Friday evening before followers dive into four on Saturday, kick-off times staggered between 12:30 and 19:45 to accommodate the live schedule. We also have the welcome return of the Premier League Super Sunday schedule, the first showing since 8 March. This time we have three matches, featuring Newcastle United v Sheffield United, Aston Villa v Chelsea and the focus of this article, Everton v Liverpool.
Everton vs Liverpool preview
The third Merseyside Derby of the season kicks off at 19:00 on Sunday evening and will pull in a bumper TV audience. Bookmakers, who have had little to trade on in recent times, have gone all out with their coverage of this match. Major bookmakers offer members the chance to bet on the winner of this weekend’s games, including Everton v Liverpool, with hundreds of special markets available, both pre-match and in-play. Expect to find both teams to score, total goals, handicap, first goal scorer, correct score, and plenty more besides.
Everton low on confidence
Everton are looking to get off the mark against bitter rivals Liverpool after losing to the Reds in the Premier League and FA Cup already this season. It has been another disappointing campaign for the home team who can be found down in 12th place with their stats showing 10 wins and 7 draws against 12 defeats. Everton have scored 37 goals but conceded 46 so far. The 37 points on the board means Everton are six points behind Wolves and the top six.
They prepare for this match with their recent form showing two wins from five but no wins in their last three outings. That drought consists of two defeats and a draw with Carlo Ancelotti’s men heading into lockdown on the back of a hurtful defeat away to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Frank Lampard’s men make a mockery of what was expected to be a competitive contest, the Blues running out convincing 4-0 victors that day. A bitterly disappointing afternoon for Carlo Ancelotti and his team who now look destined for a midtable finish.
The betting takes Everton’s poor recent form into consideration and the locals have been written off for an overdue victory on Sunday. The Toffees as 24/5 top price at William Hill to break their losing streak against Liverpool. Both teams to score has been chalked up at 3/4 – top price at bet365 – or there’s 10/3 with the same firm if you are happy to take up position on the fence and back a draw.
Liverpool flying high
Sports fans across the UK are delighted by the return of the Premier League and credit must go to everyone who has pulled together, including clubs, players, and TV chiefs, to bring the beautiful game back from the brink. It was reported earlier this year that the campaign could be scrapped with results declared null and void. That was the worst case scenario and supporters are glad the game in England didn’t follow the example of the Scottish Premiership who enraged fans by calling the campaign before the end, declaring champions and relegating sides.
One group happier than most was Liverpool fans who will now see their side end a painful wait to be crowned champions of England once again. It hung in the balance for a few weeks but now that the season is set to resume Jurgen Klopp’s side can get back to the business of driving themselves across the line. Following a difficult period it would be perfect for the Reds to beat Everton and get their campaign back on track. That will certainly help ease the suffering of fans, ensuring football returns with a bang. They’ve already beaten their rivals twice this season and a third looks likely.
There are no real surprises in the match betting for this game and Liverpool start as favourites with traders at all respected firms. The away win is 4/7 with Coral and that’s the general feeling in the market at present. Those with a bit more faith in the runaway Premier League leaders can back them in one of the attractive specials. Liverpool half time/full time is 29/20 with Ladbrokes or Liverpool -1 goal on the handicap is 13/8 with Betfair.
